Simply put, keyword phrases are the combination of words that people type into Google to find your website.  A good place to start brainstorming your website keyword phrases is to ask yourself, &#8220;what would my ideal customer type into the Google search box to find me?&#8221;<br />

<a href="https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal?referer=');">Google’s Keyword Tool</a> is where I start to research keyword phrases. Begin by typing a broad keyword phrase. For example, if I had a website selling wedding invitations, I would begin by typing in the keyword phrase ‘Wedding Invitations’ and click the ‘Get Keyword Ideas Button’.</p>
<p>Google returns data about that specific keyword phrase and various combination&#8217;s of the phrase. Next to the keyword phrases is the number of times the phrases were entered into the Google search box. In our example, ‘Wedding Invitations’ was searched 1.2 million times in the month of September. As you scan down the list you will see other phrases like ‘Wedding Invitation Wording’ searched 135,000 times last month.</p>

<p style="text-align: left;">If you think about it, this tool is also telling you online demand for a product. 1.2 million people were searching for wedding invitations online. Those people searching for wedding invitations are looking to research, shop, and price compare. Those are potential customers!</p>
<p>However, the most powerful and effective keyword phrases to position your website around are the less competitive 3-5 word keyword phrases.  These phrases will produce more targeted traffic on your website. Think about it. Which is better, a customer looking for ‘Wedding Invitations’ or ‘Starfish Wedding Invitations’? The bride specifically searching for ‘starfish invitations’ knows what she wants, versus the bride entering in ‘wedding invitations’ is just starting her research and is more likely to be window shopping (not ready to buy).</p>
<p>In brainstorming keyword phrases try all the combination&#8217;s. Experiment with plural and singular spellings. Common slang terms and acronyms for your industry are a good starting point. Ideally you will end up with a list of one hundred or more keyword phrases. This is the list that you should begin to strategize your website and blog content around. Consistently writing and posting informative articles to your website will have a massive, long term effect on your traffic, online branding, and search engine rank. The key to making this work is consistency.<br />

How does writing tons of articles bring visitors to your site? Each article is a new page on your website that can get indexed by Google and other search engines. It is important that your articles contain useful, informative information that your target audience will be interested in. In your articles, be sure to include your targeted keyword phrases ( the phrases you want exposure in on Google). When the search engine spiders crawl your article pages they will see your keyword phrases in the content of the article and index the page accordingly.</p>
<p><strong>Tips for getting the most out of article writing:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Write Original Articles:</strong> Create your own content. Don’t fall for the copy-and-paste trap. It’s okay to draw inspiration from other articles, but put your own spin and touch on the topic. This does three things for you: (1) positions you as an expert in your field,  (2) allows you to add a bio box to the bottom of the article, and  (3) lets you have full syndication and reprint abilities.</li>

<li><strong>Add a Bio Box &amp; Reprint Gratis on Every Article:</strong> Let your article work for you. Allow other bloggers, news sites, and websites to re-post your article on their site for free, as long as they include your bio box at the bottom of the article. You can see how my bio box below positions myself as an expert, links to by blog, and has my top keyword phrases in it. Now every site that republishes my article will be an incoming link to my blog, thus helping my blog become an authority site in the eyes of the search engines.</li>

<li><strong>Submit Your Articles:</strong> The goal is to have your articles everywhere with the bio box on the bottom. There are article directories like <a href="http://www.ezinearticles.com" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/www.ezinearticles.com?referer=');">Ezine Articles</a> that bloggers, reporters, and website owners search to find content for their publications and blogs. By submitting your articles not only do you get an incoming link from Ezine Articles, but you get one from anyone else who decides to use your article. I have articles from almost five years ago that are still getting re-printed and driving traffic to my site. Think of every article as a tentacle to bring visitors to your site.</li>
</ul>
<p>Writing articles may sound like a chore, but I encourage you to add them on a regular basis (daily works best) to get the best results. Most articles on the web are about three paragraphs and 300-400 words. That is not a lot of writing, and once you get the hang of it you can complete one in 20-30 minutes. The time you put into this marketing practice is worth it. Imagine adding 300+ new pages on your site every year. In less that six months you would out rank all your competitors because most website owners only have five page-static websites.</p>

You obviously don’t want to deceive people into visiting by promising them something that isn’t there, but make sure that in the description, you give a compelling reason for people to want to read more or find out more information.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><strong>Link URL: </strong>The url or web address of the page on your website or blog that has the article. Make sure that you’re using the web address of the exact blog post or article instead of just the main domain name of the website.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><strong>Link Tags:</strong> The tags are a vitally important part of the process because not only will your tag page get ranked for the “low hanging fruit” keywords, but it will also get ranked for the more competitive keyword phrases. Several of these bookmarking sites have a lot of authority in the eyes of the search engines, which means that their tag pages have the ability to rank well, especially when you use the less competitive keywords as your tags.</p>
<p>It’s worth it to take the time to submit your article pages with keyword tags to the social bookmarking sites.  By having numerous keywords targeted and informative article pages indexed and ranked in Google you will begin to dominate the search engines.</p>
